New Tribe’s sound has roots in American musical traditions of rock n roll, blues, country and folk, but branches out into cosmic, improvised, unclassifiable realms more akin to jazz and psychedelia. The members of the current trio line up (Eric Sarmiento – guitar/vocals, Chris Gomez – keys/vocals, Adam Sarmiento – bass/guitar/drums/vocals) have been the constants in a long, strange journey that began with gigs in central Oklahoma in 1993. Other notable members of the band have included Mike Hosty – bass/vocals, Lawrence Linden – percussion/vocals and Sterling Finlay – bass/vocals.
The first 90s phase of the band, generated a loyal and engaged fanbase in the region and beyond with much regional touring including a 2 night stand at Norman’s Sooner Theater, as well as gigs on the national stage such as the Washington DC NOW rally in 1995 which was broadcast on C-SPAN and had an estimated 250,000 attendees.
In 2016 the band reformed after having pursued other various solo and intersecting musical projects. This current phase of the band has yielded 4 albums, and 2 singles, as well as a web series. They have kept a consistent rotation of gigs mainly in Texas and Oklahoma including, dates at Illinois River Jam, Bushyhead Festival and their own New Tribe gathering at Roman Nose State Park. Now as a trio, the band is exploring a new stripped down, laid back sound that promises to appeal to a wide audience.
